Brock Lesnar Vs Goldberg, Survivor Series my oppinion... (SPOILERS)

I remember when I used to watch the Royal Rumble back when I was a kid, I would love it every time they would throw a few statistics in there, they would tell you the amount of times someone had won when entering at a certain number, what the record for the quickest elimination was, how close someone was to beating the record for longest time in a rumble or the most eliminations, it just seemed to add to the spectacle of it all.

So am I talking about the Royal Rumble? No it just seemed like a good way to start this one sided conversation, lets face it that's what a blog post really is, it is me talking to you my reader, I just talk and talk at you and sometimes if I am very lucky you might leave me a response. The response could be that you agree with me, that I have taught you something or made you think about something or you could be telling me that I am an idiot that you don't agree with me, that I am talking crap but in truth there could be an argument for saying that any response is a good response in a way? How is this relevant well it is because I want to talk about the match between Bill Goldberg and Brock Lesnar which just took place at Survivor Series , for those of you who haven't seen it well basically Goldberg crushes Lesnar. The entire match can be described as Lesnar picks up Goldberg and throws him into a corner, Goldberg then pushes Lesnar over, spears him twice jack hammers him and pins him match over with only 2 minutes of actual wrestling time and 1 move performed by Lesnar and 5 by Goldberg if you count the push, the 2 spears, the jack hammer and the pin as moves. Now the internet is obviously full of people debating this match, who won, who should have won, if it should have gone down the way it did, how it makes the two men look so I figured I should give my opinion on it all.

For a start I am not going to be talking about Brock being a legitimate MMA fighter and saying ''oh man he could kill him'' I don't care about what either man has or can do outside of the world of wrestling I just want to talk about them as wrestlers. Looking at wrestling go back and look at a lot of Goldberg's old matches and they were basically short squash matches in which the guy was a monster who beat people up and did it quickly, his matches seldom went that long and he seldom was subjected to a real competitive worker going all out to try and make a match look like a believable struggle, if you want to see his limitations then I strongly recommend you watch Goldberg versus William Regal, its not a long match but Regal really does put him through his passes on the one hand it makes Goldberg look a little bad in places but I think it actually makes his win all the sweeter and shows with some work he could have been capable of more than we have seen from him. Brock has had a lot of squash matches where he just power moves people and quickly puts them to bed, but if you watch some of the matches he has had you can see that with his amateur wrestling background he is actually capable of doing a whole lot more, just watch some of his matches with Kurt Angle if you want to see a good example of what he is really capable of the man can do the power moves but he can also be very technical and surprisingly agile for a big guy. I have to admit that I think Brock is the better wrestler and that he is actually capable of 5 star matches under the right circumstances, in fact I would rate some of his with Angle that highly, I also love the match where he lost the belt to Eddie Guerrero, yes he lost but it was a great match and matches are pre-determined and it takes 2 athletes working hard to make them feel real.

The thing is though that wrestling is both entertainment and a business, you can say Brock is better on paper or that with his MMA skills he should be able to rip Goldberg's head off but is that the best outcome to provide the most entertainment value to the most people and is it going to be best for business? You can claim its not realistic but then look at most of the entertainment we consume, are films like Rambo 3 realistic where one man seems to be able to almost single handedly defeat the armed forces of an entire country and be back home in time for tea? Of course not sometimes you have to accept something whether it is likely or even possible in order for a piece of entertainment to work to its full potential. You need to factor in the story they are trying to tell and the facts at hand. Goldberg has not properly wrestled for a long time, he apparently minorly injured himself in a recent spot on TV and even when he was at his prime he wasn't exactly known for his long matches, so allowing him to finish things off quickly minimising the potential aggravation to any injury's he might have recently sustained was a good move. If Brock had been the one to win he would have had to have done at least a few powerful looking moves to a potentially currently fragile Goldberg risking the chance of hurting him which goes against the wishes of both the WWE and Goldberg as he has signed up to appear at the next few main events. It might make Brock look weak but this is not irreversible, you can have him face Goldberg again latter when he is physically more able and regain his honour, there are so many ways you can make a whole story out of this.

The match was kind of disappointing but I think you need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture, this match and its outcome kept everyone safe and left the book open for another chapter, not only that but it has everyone talking about it and that kind of heat is good, you know what they say no publicity is bad publicity.

Brock Lesner UFC 200 win and his part time staus in WWE.

There is actually a lot I could talk about within the world of wrestling to the point that its hard to know where to start but here goes. to this end I plan on my next few posts being wrestling related and I will start with this one,  I will start by talking about Brock Lesner. Now love him or hate him anyone can see that the guy certainly does recieve a mixed response. Some dislike the fact that he is basically a part time worker and yet still gets to hold belts and be treated as a high value commodity while others like the fact that he is a genuine bad ass fighting machine who competes in the UFC. Well Brock had a UFC fight against Mark Hunt at UFC 200 recently.  A fight which I found pretty darn impressive to watch, a fight he won by a unaminious decision. There was however before the fight a lot of questions floating in the air what would happen if Brock lost being one of them. You see the beauty of wrestling is that with it being predetermined you can make whoever you want look like a legitmate fighter with UFC being real though there was no control over the effect a loss or win would have on the beasts image. You would think that this would cause the WWE to not want him to compete well the WWE chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon had commented on the fact Brock would be fighting at UFC 200 by claiming that the WWE were “not supporting the fight necessarily”,  when this was brought to the beasts attention he laughed adding that “I don’t care what she says.” when asked if a loss would effect his WWE drawing power his response was  “I really don’t give a shit.”. With Brock apparently earning around 2.5 Million for his UFC fight it looks like the WWE kind of need him more than he needs them.

Brock was asked if the win meant that we would be seeing him fight again in the UFC again and he gave the response “One day at a time.”. Usually Brock is a man of very few words but this didnt stop him from delivering a passionate plea to America to stop the violence which has been happening lattly and to all try to come togther “America! Shout out to all the men and women who protect this country, from one white boy to all nationalities, we need to stand together people!”

Speaking after the fight, UFC President Dana White seemed pretty supportive of Brock commenting that “People don’t realise that for a guy who’s only fought a few times in this sport then goes away for as long as he has, with his age (38) and everything to come back and do what he did again tonight is pretty impressive,” adding that Brock is “ a freak of nature.”

So I guess what has come out of this more than anything is the fact that Brock is going to do what Brock wants to do and if you like that or not its kind of the way its going to be. Sure you can hope that WWE or UFC throw him to the curb but the truth is the guy is a darn good draw and makes both companies a lot of money. This win in UFC 200 will make them want him to fight again and will also make him look even more like a legitmate threat inside the WWE. Add to this the fact the WWE is about to bring back the brand split and will need all the legitimate stars they can get there hands on and the fact theres proberbly going to be even more gold to go around and I think Brock is deffinetly there to stay, part time at least.

Summer Slam 2015 pre-event discussion

Summer Slam 2015 Is nearly upon us. So with that in mind I thought it would be nice to discuss my thoughts and in some cases predictions for some of the matches. I could talk about all of them but the truth is I find it really hard to care about some of them. To be honest I will probably end up looking back on this realizing that I have massively missed the mark but then really its all just a bit of fun.

So here is what we have to look forward to Brock Lesnar accompanied to the ring by his manager Paul Heyman against The Undertaker in singles match. Personally I think they are both good wrestlers/entertainers and I think that it will be a decent match but I firmly believe that The Undertaker will win, mostly because after Brock beat the streak if you allow him to cleanly beat Taker then they are really just dumping on Taker. Taker needs to win to save face. A loss wont hurt Brock you will never be able to take away the fact that he is the man who ended Undertakers famous streak.

Randy Orton against Sheamus in a singles match. I have no idea who will win this, in truth I am not invested enough in either of them to have any understanding of there win and loss record against each other or why they are being pitted against each other. If I was to go back to calling it the way I did as a youngster, just saying who I wanted to win because I like them the most then I would be chanting Orton for the course of this match.

Seth Rollins against John Cena in a title versus title Singles match for the WWE United States Championship and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. I guess that in doing this title for title they are trying to make some huge event of it, trying to go for some of the excitement of Warrior Versus He who shall not be named in there title for title bout from Wrestlemania 6. I am afraid neither of them are as big as there counterpart. I do think though that Cena has achieved so much that he really doesn't need the push of winning both belts, so personally I think the best move would be to have Rollins win, but knowing the WWE I wouldn't be surprised to see it end in some kind of double count out or disqualification which enables both parties to keep there belts. I would much prefer a good straight win and then watch them remove the lesser belt from the victor whoever it might be after a week or two and put it up in some kind of tournament.

Ryback versus The Big Show versus The Miz in a Triple Threat match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Now I have always thought the Big Show was pretty cool, yeah he is a big guy and at times his move set can seem to be a little limited but well that never did Andre any harm. I have problems caring about The Miz, they seem to try to be making him in to some form of douche type character but I just dont care enough he doesnt sell the hate. There were times I wanted to kill heel wrestlers like The Million Dollar Man and Ravashing Rick Rude and the Miz just doesnt cut it for me personally, not sure if its something the WWE are doing wrong or something the Miz is not doing. I have to be honest and tell the truth that I have no clue how this match will end.

Stephen Amell and Neville vs. Stardust and King Barrett in a tag team match. Now I could say oh look at the WWE trying to use a famous actor to push a wrestling show yet again they have been doing this kind of crap since the lead up to the first Wrestlemania but I have seen Stephen Amell on RAW, the man was selling it really well, unlike some of the famous people who they have shoehorned into matches and events I am actually looking forward to this. I imagine that either Stehen Amell and Neville will win or they will loose in a way which allows them to still come out the cheered heroes of the match. I do wonder if Stephen Amell will just be on the outside of the ring for ninety percent of it, maybe throw one punch and mostly be there for show or if they will have had him in training learning a move or two, he is an athletic guy who apparently does a lot of his own stunts on the show Arrow. I have never been much of a fan of Neville but I do respect some of the high flying work he does. On the other hand I am very happy to see them making some use of Stardust.

Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro in a singles match. Both of these wrestlers seem decent, I have seen them perform some good moves but they just haven't been sold enough to me for me to really care what happens or who wins.

Team Bella (The Bella Twins and Alicia Fox) versus Team B.A.D. (Naomi Knight, Sasha Banks and Tamina Snuka) versus Team PCB (Paige, Charlotte and Becky Lynch) in a Three-Team Elimination match. I don't mean this in a sexist way at all, in fact I would love there to be some credible female wrestling on air but this is not WWE's strong point.

I find it hard to care about any of the tag team matches the truth is I think the golden days of Tag team wrestling are so far behind us that we are never likely to see anything close to them again. If it was up to me the WWE would focus on rebooting the whole tag team division and it would start with honouring Demolition at the next Hall of fame for there contribution to the world of tag team wrestling and the various records they have held. From there I would look at developing brand new wrestlers who only wrestle as a part of a team, people who train togther whoise ambition is purly to put on the best tag matches possible who are happy to sell themselves to a team instead of trying to be part of a team one minute and a solo wrestler the next. I will end things here as I have gone off on a bit of a tangent.
